New Year's Eve Dating Dilemma

December 31, 2013

LF: You're just a friend Diz, you don't count. I see you all the time.

Diz: What if I don't want to be "just a friend?"

Diz: Who are you expecting, then?

LF: You never know. Mr. Frank has been flirting with me in the comments section of the blog. He's more my age. Plus, he's a real bull of a dog, if you know what I mean.

Dear Readers,
I hope you all have someone to cuddle up with at midnight. Grab your dog, or someone else special in your life, and ring in 2014 together.

And remember, if you're drinking, don't be driving!

Happy New Year!

Love,
Lilly Faye

The Post-Christmas Debriefing

Dear Readers,
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Dizzie and I spent the day together. Let's find out how it went...

Don't tell Dizzie, but he won't have to wait an entire year to open more presents. I already bought his birthday gift!

Christmas Spirit

I love how Christmas brings out the best in all of us.

Generous offers are made...

Old grudges are forgotten...

And new friends grow closer...

If only we could keep the Christmas Spirit going all year long!

Cattitude

Yesterday I received an email from an irate reader. I've invited her here today and agreed to address her complaint on the blog.

Sigh. Cats are so sensitive. But Busty's suggestion is a good one.
If a long-running series of gentle mysteries set in Crozet, Virginia, starring a sleuthing cat, her best dog pal,  and their many animal friends (plus a few humans) sounds good to you, then ask your friendly librarian or bookseller for the Mrs. Murphy Mysteries by Sneaky Pie Brown. It might help to mention Sneaky Pie's mother, Rita Mae Brown, while you're at it. Sometimes the books are shelved under her name.

Dear Santa

Today I've offered to help my friend Dizzie write his first letter to Santa.

"It's always best to start off by thanking Santa for what he brought you last year, Diz. But since this is your first Christmas, we'll skip that part. We'll just say you hope he's had a good year at the North Pole.

"Next, you want to assure Santa you've been a good boy and deserve new stuff.

"Have you been been behaving yourself, Diz?"

"I'll just write down that you've been trying your best.

"Now, here comes the part where you ask for what you want."

"That's good. Short and sweet. You don't want to overwhelm Santa with too many requests.

"We'll close by saying you're looking forward to his visit this year.

"Press your paw print under your name."

"I've got it covered, Diz."

Lilly Faye's Movie Review: Miss Potter, starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor

The Miss Potter in the title is Beatrix Potter, the English author and illustrator of twenty-three books, beginning with The Tale of Peter Rabbit. She really, really loved animals, so right away you know she was a good person.

Ewan McGregor is one of my favorite actors, and he didn't disappoint.

Renee Zellweger didn't sound like any English person I know, but that's probably because she's from Texas. The movie was so good, I quickly forgot about her bad accent.

There weren't any dogs or cats in the story, but there were quite a few cute woodland creatures, both real and imagined.

This movie had several good messages. Have confidence in yourself, have the courage to put your work out in the world, and never give up on love.

Movie Rating: Two Paws Up!

Christmas Reading

One of my favorite Christmas stories of all time is A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote. It's about a young boy named Buddy, his elderly Cousin Sook, and their dog, Queenie.

Most of Capote's books are for mature audiences, but A Christmas Memory is appropriate for the young as well as the young at heart. I recommend it for ages one to one hundred.

Mommy and I like to curl up under a blanket and read it together every December. It always makes us cry...
